Landon Donovan’s impressive start to his stint at Bayern Munich continued yesterday, with Landon scoring 2 goals after entering the game in the 60th minute as a substitution. Landon is now the team’s leading scorer in the midseason-break friendly games, with 4 goals in 5 games. In yesterday’s match against Second Division squad Mainz, Landon scored in the 70th minute on a header and in the 90th minute to finish the scoring with a right footed shot from 12-yards out. Landon’s success, particularly off the bench, has made him more confident that he can be the third forward in the Bayern rotation if he is able to extend his stay with the team.
“There’s no date,” Landon said when asked when he would know if his loan could be turned into a permanent transfer. “If I go back to the Galaxy, we have our first game March 21, so I’d have to return at least one week earlier. But that would be sad. I want to make it here. It is my dream. I want stay here a few years.”

Landon,
Congratulations on a crowning achievement to a brilliant career! I first saw you play at Crew Stadium in ’01 or ’02. During the game I had a fantastic conversation about soccer with a stranger along the rail. I went on about how I thought this young kid named Donovan was a shoe-in for Korea team and was the Future of US Soccer. Halfway through the conversation learned his name.
After the game the guy introduced me to his whole family one by one after saying “Anytime your in Flint, MI look me up – Frank D.” – Anyway I must say that I knew at that point you came from leader stock! Your field presence and anticipation are remarkable and these skills will be honed in Munich.
I have been a lifelong FCB fan, as my mother is Bavarian and I still have lots of family over there. I was there for WM ’06 for all 3 games – brutal..but great changes since. I always wanted to see them in Olympische Stadion – even when Franz played, but only made it there to see a concert once. I hear the new place rocks! Enjoy all those stadiums, towns and crowds! I hope to make it to Frankfurt or Munich — if I don’t see you there…well, maybe Dubai next January. I have relocated there and it crushed me to see FCB played Al Jazeera .. this is 5 minutes from my office! Anyway – I was here stateside for holiday months and now waiting for 1 week – La Guerra Fria II!! Hope you can make it! — John Noll
p.s. – Tell Schweinie-Tor to shoot more often!

as an american currently living in munich i can only wish landon all the best over here. Bundesliga and Champions League games are a whole step up from the second division teams like mainz and k’lautern but landon can make it in munich, i know it and im so thrilled he’s playing here. i used to tell all my german friends the best american player we have is landon, and i always said what a shame it was that it never rly worked out in leverkusen. now its all donovan man. stars and stripes at fc bayern. best of luck landon. score, score, score and we’ll all be celebrating with you. hope i see you in the city sometime, munich is pretty nice. especially the englischer garten (when its a little warmer ^^)
