Landon started and put in another solid 90 minutes as Everton defeated league-leaders Chelsea 2-1. Landon assisted the first goal on a corner kick that was headed in by striker Louis Saha in the 33rd minute. Landon caused more problems for the Chelsea defense in the 45th minute, when he was taken down in the box for a penalty kick, however Saha wasn’t able to convert the kick. Saha did find the net again in the 75th minute, giving the home side all they would need for their first victory over Chelsea since 2000. Everton has now earned 13 points in the 6 games played with Donovan on the squad, while only registering 19 points in the previous 22 games.

LD is a firm favourite at Everton. A fine player and a nice man.
We will miss him when he goes home but we will be following his progress in the LA Galaxy season.
Hey! I shouldn’t be talking about him leaving: he still has lots of time to score lots of goals for us!
During a totally fair challenge Landon sadly hurt Ashley Cole of Chelsea but before that had Cole “in his pocket”. All the Brit press is bemoaning the fact the Cole is one of two maybe three world-class players we have and now won’t be at the World Cup.
Now that really says something about Landon.
Thank you Galaxy for loaning us a star.

It was cool to see one of the best teams in the world lose to Everton and that two Americans were on the field for the winners!

Be careful here, I for one can appreciate the 13 pts in 6 versus 16 in 22 stat above, but I would hate for Evertonians to think Donovan is taking more credit than is due. Landon has played well, and in all interviews has been very humble and appreciative of the opportunity he’s getting at Goodison. I hope the attitude stays that way. For me, LD’s performance are only getting better as he is getting the chance to train and play with higher caliber players in a higher caliber league which only tends to make his game better and better. It has really been a joy to watch. I’m very proud of the guy, and I personally believe a successful tenure in Europe will do more for the game in America than all those years spent dominating the domestic mediocrity of MLS. I hope MLS comes to fruition as a league on par with other top leagues around the world, but right now, and for the extent of Donovan’s playing career it will not be at that level.
