Three players scored their first goals of the season, but it was Landon Donovan’s impressive outing that stole the show in Seattle. The Galaxy beat the Seattle Sounders 4-0 at Quest Field, and Landon Donovan was involved in every goal.
Donovan posted a heartfelt message on his Facebook after the win: “Another great win! In the airport having a beer and watching the Lake show. See you guys next weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there…we love you!”
The beer was definitely in order as Landon provided three assists and one goal to take out one of the most difficult opponents that they will face in their bid to take the Western Conference title. Donovan now leads the league with 9 assists, and looks to get in a few more before his send off to the World Cup on Saturday.
It was another sell out crowd for the Sounders as they looked to show they their fans that they would be the ones to end the Galaxy’s unbeaten streak… it was not to be on this beautiful spring afternoon. Jovan Kirovski opened the scoring in the 22nd with a controlled shot from outside the box. The ball, which should have been saved, went through keeper Casey Kellers hands and the Galaxy were off to the races. Minus a chance that Edson Buddle got at the beginning of the second half, the Galaxy were clinical when it came to finishing in Seattle.
Last seasons Rookie of the Year Omar Gonozalez netted his first of the season, converting a corner sent in by Landon. The header hit perfectly off the crossbar and bounced down right over the line. Not to be outdone from the backfield, Todd Dunivant also got in on the scoring in the 57th. Landon Donovan, again, sent in the free kick that met a peculiarly open Dunivant who headed the ball past Keller. It was not the prettiest goal that you’ll ever see, but it was very welcoming to the Defender, who has been the savior for the Galaxy so many times on defense.
